Vintage Pink Baby Quilt

I'm excited to share with you today the newest baby quilt I recently finished for a friend of mine having a baby girl. She asked that the quilt be pink & vintage!
I'm a vintage-loving girl myself so I had a fun time piecing this beauty together!
I feel like the pictures just don't do justice for this quilt. The sun wasn't cooperating with me but these will at least give you a glimpse of it.
I feel like pictures just don't do justice for how pretty this quilt really is!
The sun wasn't cooperating with me but these will at least give you a glimpse of it.
I decided to do half square triangles for the design because triangles are awesome in any quilt. It really gives it a more scrappy look like you see in most vintage quilts.

And for a little special touch, I embroidered the baby girl's name at the bottom of the quilt.
Truly a keepsake.
I don't personally have an embroidery machine but my best friend Rachel at Stitches N Snippets recently got one for Christmas so when I traveled up to visit her she let me borrow it for few projects! It was so much FUN! I want one now!
If only they were cheaper...
Oh well, perk to having a cool best friend who also loves to sew.

If you ask Rachel, she could attest to how nervous I was about this quilt!!!
When I took the order I was asked to do swirls and designs in the quilt pattern rather than my typical straight-line quilting. I don't claim to be a professional free motion quilter, and in fact, this was my first quilt to do entirely of FMQ but I'm SO glad I went out of my comfort zone and did it. It's far from perfect, but for my first entire quilt of fmq, I'm pretty darn proud of it and think it turned out great!
I'm pleased with how it turned out and glad she asked me to do it because it went with the character of the quilt. With fmq, it wrinkled up ever so perfectly giving it that perfect vintage wrinkly quilt look.
I mean doesn't it look so cuddly ?!
I hope the new Momma & baby love it and all of the special touches I added to it to make it a truly one of a kind quilt.

Alaya's Nursery

I'm excited to share with you a few pictures of Alaya's nursery.
As you already know, we moved into our house this past summer and our new home allowed for her to have a room of her own! I was elated to be able to decorate a room for her!
But after the cost of moving, there wasn't a lot left in the budget to spend a lot so most everything was handmade or repurposed.
Her curtains, crib, & swing were leftover from her brothers old room.
The wall decorations were all handmade.
For my birthday in July, I was given a Joann's gift card, and with that I purchased some fabric.

This was before we had moved into our house and decided on colors for her room so I'm glad they ended up matching in the end.
With the fabric, I made a mini quilt for her wall.

On another wall I just used what I had around the house.
The letter was from her brother's old room and I just repainted it.
You can find these wooden letters at Walmart or HobbyLobby for cheap! Just paint over it with some craft paint.
It's SO simple & cheap ...yet super cute at the same time.
And the garland I just used strips of leftover fabric and lace ribbon!

On another wall hangs this pretty picture a friend made for her.
It's absolutely perfect for her room!
Such a treasure.

As for the wall color,  it was actually picked by my husband. I wanted to do purple or a light gray but he say that was too typical. He wanted something different. Oh boy. But with a huge sigh of relief, I actually like love the color he picked! It's so colorful & cheery! Nice job hun! ;)

I also whipped up a quick quilt for her with some scrap fabric I had in my stash.
And used some of that fabric to put in embroidery hoops to hang above her crib.
I actually doubled the batting in it so it was extra thick
for when she lays on the floor or has tummy time.
And it's also made for a great backdrop in her newborn photos...

Anyways, back to her room!
I absolutely love how it's coming along.
Sure it's not perfect, but I like it anyways!

I feel like I should wrap up with a more recent picture of her since she isn't that tiny little newborn anymore!
I can't hardly believe how big she is getting!
I couldn't ask for a sweeter or happier baby.

***I've had a handful of people ask me what color of paint her room so I thought I would share!
It's called Alluring Aruba Blue #10744
And we just bought the paint from Walmart so the brand is ColorPlace.

Thanks for stopping by!
